Chester Street Bakery & Bar

Warm to the wood-fired centrepiece of Brisbane bakery-bar...

It’s one of the less common multi-use business combinations we’ve come across in a while: this venture in Brisbane operates as a bakery by day, and a bar by night. As with all the best ideas, though, you’re soon left wondering why there aren’t more places like it.

Chester Street Bakery & Bar joins the A&C group, a family which has already shown plenty of breeding with Alfred & Constance and Alfredo’s Pizzeria among the siblings to have featured on We Heart in the past. Designer Alexander Lotersztain of Derlot is once again the man with the creative direction, and has opted for an interior which blends Tasmanian oak, tiles, and his own bespoke lighting, centred around the glazed cobalt-blue wood-fired oven. From the crack of dawn the sparkling cooker, designed by famed Australian oven designer Alan Scott built and by Dennis Benson, pumps out delicious breads and the equally delicious smells that come with it. That freshly-baked aroma lingers into the evening when the focus shifts from food to drink, and there’s a nice outdoor area to enjoy something cooling on a balmy evening, decked out with Czech furniture.
