From forth the fertile imaginations of APAK comes Stardust Dreams, a journey into the far reaches of the cosmos to places where cutesy beings float through star-speckled landscapes, bumping into weird and wonderful creatures along the way. Their journey is something of an odyssey – seen together the little heroes could be on a sort of Lord of the Rings quest set in space, with rivers to be forded, walls to be scaled, and strange lands explored. In short, it looks to us like a significant amount of pre-bedtime cheese was eaten in the making of this collection.
APAK is husband and wife team Ayumi and Aaron Piland, who hail from a slightly less far-flung corner of the galaxy – Portland, Oregon – and are themselves journeying to Melbourne and Sydney to exhibit Stardust Dreams at the appropriately named Outré Gallery, which has a branch in each city. Catch the pair’s spaced-out innocence at both venues simultaneously until 29 September.
