Hock Farm

Sacramento restaurant's modern recreation of the rustic farmhouse...

There may not be much actual agriculture or cattle rearing done at Hock Farm, a new restaurant in Sacramento, California, but there’s plenty of the spirit of the 1850s farmhouse which gave the place its name and pioneered the valley’s food production industry all those years ago.

John Sutter’s Hock Farm may have gone, but Parent company Paragary Restaurant Group have not forgotten, delivering a modern take on the rustic farmhouse for their venture. The area has a strong history of farm-to-fork eating, so the new Farm won’t have to look far for their fresh produce and it feels like it too. PRG has gathered a trio of its Sacramento hospitality vets to run the restaurant, and has shown an admirable sense of community that extends beyond the management, using local companies and craftsmen to fit out the joint. There’s polyhedra lighting by Schmitt Design, and furniture by 12M Design and Reclamation Art and Furniture. Particular highlights – in every sense of the word – are the neon quote from Sutter himself on the overarching nature of his duties, and the striking chairs that pick out a central table for special attention. Hock Farm has ours.
