The Ivanhoe Hotel

The Ivanhoe Hotel courts success with a historic revamp...

The neighbourhood of Manly in Sydney has been gaining momentum as a bit of a hot spot for entertainment in the last few years, and following the philosophy that if you’re not moving forward you’re going backward, Tim Peterson decided his premises The Ivanhoe Hotel needed an overhaul to put it at the forefront of the burgeoning scene.

Mission accomplished for Mr Peterson and The Ivanhoe, which is as fine an example of surf shack chic mixed with Mediterranean modern as you’ll see. Architecture outfit Paul Kelly Design and interior specialist Sibella Court can take the bows for the overall aesthetic, with several hospitality notables lending their expertise to the project including Lothar Winkler of the Intercontinental and Hyatt Hotel groups. Customers will be more impressed by the experience than the roll-call of contributors though, with an easy-going yet smart vibe, and plenty of choice when it comes to finding the perfect backdrop for your evening. Our favourite is the gnarly rooftop bar The Pines, but if you like a solid ceiling over your head you won’t be disappointed.
