Unik

Preparation is key at singular restaurant...

Marcelo Joulia is a man who appreciates the importance of preparation. The Franco-Argentinian architect and designer behind Unik in Buenos Aires has pored through his collection of 30 years to select the interior fixtures that make the restaurant the stand-out place it is, taking a year to complete the project, and it was certainly worth the wait.

Unik can be found in Palermo, the bohemian district of the South American capital most likened to New York’s SoHo, and the surrounding artistic environment has soaked into every fibre and is reflected in every surface. With over 20 previous restaurants under his belt, Joulia knows what works, and in this case it’s the industrial design of the ’60s and ’70s, but with a modern and free-flowing layout including an open kitchen that’s so inclusive the chefs are almost sitting in your lap.

They prepare a menu designed by Argentina’s first Michelin-starred chef, Mauro Colagreco, ensuring the food generates as much buzz as the colourful and eclectic design. As the name suggests, one-of-a-kind.
