There are plenty of health clubs out there dedicated to recharging the physical batteries, but at One Taste Holistic Health Club in Hangzhou, the focus is firmly on the spiritual side of ourselves.

In creating a calming environment in which to heal the mind, Tsung-Jen Lin of architects Crox International has taken an elegant, rather than luxurious, path to enlightenment. The interior is subtle, with classic Chinese motifs, such as bamboo shoots and blossom trees, interspersed within a beautiful wooden construction, which ebbs and flows as though it has been carved out of a solid piece, rather than built from many planks of lauan timber. The traditional has been augmented by the somewhat futuristic in the metallic light studded ceilings and occasionally shiny upholstery.

Built on a mountainside overlooking the city’s West Lake, the climate offers a naturally calming atmosphere where morning mists provide an easy start to the day, and there are countless ways to chill your soul in the Eastern tradition. We can feel the blood pressure dropping already…
