On the outskirts of Saint-Germain-des-Prés sits the small but perfectly formed, La Belle Juliette. Set in the 6th arrondissement, famed for its compulsive people watching – afternoons spent in boutiques and cafes – this petit trésor is every bit your imagination’s romantic notions of Paris living.
Inspired by the life and loves of Juliette Récamier, La Belle Juliette pays tribute to the Parisian socialite at the height of her popularity during Napoleon’s regime. Her salon would draw leading literary, artistic and political individuals to enjoy the latest in trends, style and opulence led by ultimate femininity. Designed by local designer Anne Gelbard, Juliette’s life is evoked in the quality of the interiors, design and service.
Housed over four floors, on a semi-residential street, each étage pays homage to Juliette’s life, not only in Paris but also her exile in Italy. Decorated in blues and pinks, there’s a strong feel of modernity in the facilities ranging from iMacs to espresso makers, that settle amongst antique prints, bergere chairs and neoclassic aesthetics.
With beautiful claw-foot baths facing large windows, there’s a dreamy element to each bedroom. Luxury linens make for late mornings, and eventual breakfast next to an open fire and fuschia walls sure makes for a romantic setting.
It’s the little extras that make for an indulgent stay at La Belle Juliette. Offering one of the only hotel spas in the area, the tranquil basement sanctuary is open almost 12 hours a day. With luxurious treatments available it’s difficult to tear yourself away. No wonder our favourite folk at Mr & Mrs Smith hail La Belle Juliette as the gem of the left-bank!
