Those of you who are regular readers, and haven’t spent the last few weeks living under a rock (or in a chain and whip dungeon – we know what some of you buggers get up to), won’t fail to have noticed that we put on a little soiree in Shoreditch last week as part of Kopparberg’s ün-establishment – a two week, two city, series of events for creatives types and fans of fruit-based fermented alcoholic beverages alike.

Invited along to present a ‘show and tell’, we thought it the ideal opportunity to bring this summer’s Create GB project to the real world for the first time – especially as we’re just weeks away from releasing the project’s accompanying 200+ page publication. So, that’s what we did; some of our favourite up-and-coming creative talents were contacted, some talks arranged, and some installations and exhibitions planned – and last Thursday, 25th October, it all finally came together.

Simon Cheadle kicked off proceedings with a talk about the necessity of making mistakes in design, and – being our first ever offline event – we were bound to make a couple of our own during the day. Son’ Emirali was up next, discussing his brilliantly obsessive Fosters newsagents project; whilst his 1:1 scale installation of the 90 year-old South London corner shop was one of the stars of the show… and, of course, bringing along free sweets was always going to win the audience over.

Next up was some free time for those in attendance to browse the rather special work that our creatives had brought with them, Lisa Watson‘s architectural jewellery was begging to be tried on, whilst Ashleigh Downer‘s spectacular, otherworldly creations packed even more wow-factor in the flesh. The witty multi-narrative illustrations of Bristol-based Rory Midhani were catching many an eye too, and it’s he who was up next, for a brief dissection of his immense Dragtopia work.

Inspirational creatives connecting with an engaged audience, plenty of cider consumed, new friends made – Create GB at Kopparberg ün-establishment was a relaxing afternoon infused with copious amounts of creativity, and a good time was had by all. Stay tuned, it’s given us the taste for more of the same…
