28 September – 5 January

40th Anniversary Exhibition: Roads to Wigan Pier

Opening in a room above a shop in York, with an exhibition by an unknown photographer going by the name of Martin Parr (whatever happened to him, hey?) – Impressions Gallery has gone on to become one of Europe’s most important photographic galleries. In celebration of this, tomorrow will see the gallery revisiting an exhibition first shown in 1984; a captivating series of images that use George Orwell’s 1937 book, The Road to Wigan Pier, as their inspiration. An intense reminder of the neglected north that recent history has all but forgotten.

Roads to Wigan Pier; 40th Anniversary Exhibition, Impressions Gallery, Centenary Square, Bradford, BD1 1SD; Running 28th September to 5th January 2013. Free entrance to gallery

Nicole Eisenman; Tis but a scratch’ ‘A scratch?! Your arm’s off!’ ‘No, it isn’t

Non-conformist American artist Nicole Eisenman presents her first major solo show in a UK public gallery this winter, opening this weekend at London’s Studio Voltaire. Expect a large-scale sculpture and multi-media installation, focussing on her usual topics of the human condition, spliced – of course – by her irrepressible humour and lashings of pop-culture influence. Plus, it’s worth going for the title alone; which is probably one of the best we can recall in recent times.

Nicole Eisenman; Tis but a scratch’ ‘A scratch?! Your arm’s off!’ ‘No, it isn’t, Studio Voltaire, 1a Nelson’s Row, London, SW4 7JR; Running 29th September to 1st December. Exhibition opening times Wednesday to Saturday, 12:00pm – 6:00pm

The Warehouse Project; Opening Party

The Warehouse Project; Opening Party

The hotly anticipated new season launches tomorrow night on the other side of town in its new Trafford park location. Warehouse Project‘s opening party includes some 37 DJs, acts and MCs. These guys don’t do things by halves: eight and a half hours of raving courtesy of the likes of Skream and sidekick Sgt. Pokes, Diplo, Kode 9, Plastician, Artwork, Jackmaster, Katy B… the list goes on. There’s also a special guest who’ll be revealed on the night. Although we’re not sure who this is, one thing we would bet our money on is that, with an opener like this, the rest of the season is gonna sell out pretty, pretty fast…

The Warehouse Project, Victoria Warehouse, Trafford Park Road, Manchester, M17; Running 28th September, 7:30pm to 4:00am. Entrance £20
