The Martian Embassy

kids' creative centre is out of this world...

If the name of your place is The Martian Embassy, you had better back it up with some outlandish design, and that’s what designers LAVA have done at the Sydney Story Factory down under.

Created as a space for creative endeavours, a far out tunnel of plywood ribs form the cavernous belly of the whale-like space. Individual desks provide the workspace for creating, or simply reading a book, the colour scheme is full of Martian green and deep space blue, the lighting reflects the spaced-out theme, and there’s even sound effects to complete the other-worldly experience. Space cadets can relax: tins of gravity are on hand if you start feeling light-headed.

Not only is The Martian Embassy a laudable not-for-profit enterprise, Tom Cruise and John Travolta now know where to renew their passports. Let’s hope they’ll be returning to the mothership soon…
