IkHa Restaurant

Made to order...

Ikea hacking? Is that when you get so frustrated trying to assemble the Swedish firm’s flat pack furniture that you take an axe to it? Or is it when you get hauled around the store with a Sunday morning hangover and the other patrons weave in front of you in such an annoying way that you take an axe to them? Sadly, no.

Designers have been customising Ikea furniture to create their own spaces for a while, and now Dutch design firm Oatmeal Studios have extended the idea at the Filmhuis in The Hague, to create a dining environment that’s as varied and flexible as the menu.

Open ’til 30th July, the IkHa restaurant in The Netherlands’ third largest city sees patrons selecting more than just their main courses. Within a pop-up, fold-out two-metre square dining area, diners can create their own environment by ordering individual tableware, and choosing their own tablecloths and mats from tear-off rolls. Tasty idea.
