Mudd Club

a little slice of the future amidst a medieval World Heritage site...

Back in 1988, Strasbourg’s medieval historical centre was the first entire city to be bestowed the honour of classification as a World Heritage site by UNESCO. Fast forward a couple of decades or so and occupying the ground floor and vaulted basement of one of its graceful, classified buildings is NUERA Design‘s atmospheric bar and music venue; every bit the Blade Runner-esque modernist vision of the future that the good folks of the 1980s may well have imagined everywhere in 2011 would look like.

Bolts of geometric colour, jarring LED lighting and monochrome furnishings lend Mudd Club a stark, stylised vibe that’s just screaming to be completed by cyborg-hipsters with angular haircuts and replicant emotions. The astounding blue diamond DJ booth is a definite highlight, whilst upstairs, Tom Dixon lighting adds a welcome human warmth. Challenging, unique and daring; stepping in from the cobbled streets of a World Heritage site may leave you feeling like the wild, white-haired star of another famous ’80s blockbuster…
