After their collection ‘Thin Black Lines‘ proving to be one of the highlights of this year’s London Design Festival, Japan’s minimalistic virtuosos are back with another piece of work that doesn’t just prove that “less is more”, more like takes Ludwig Mies van der Rohe’s famous motto and bashes you across the head with it, until the very thought of unnecessary embellishment makes you gag involuntarily. Designed for the Isetan department store’s ‘Piggy Bank Collection‘ exhibition, an official event for DesignTide Tokyo 2010, Nendo‘s deliciously stylish pig snout is the result of research into the medieval history of piggy banks, where unused coins were saved in household jars made of unglazed reddish clay called ‘Pygg’. Typically stylish and beautifully considered Nendo’s Pyggy Bank has future icon written all over it…
